10:25 pm - i forgot why i got on to write an entry
Interesting things: They found a contagious form of cancer in certain animals. The wire is officially the second best show ever. Pete and Pete obviously wins. The end of the wire validated every negative assumption i ever had about society and still left me feeling good. That's really all i can ask from anything. Final crisis started and they killed the martian manhunter! i guess by nerd standards that news is a million years late. it still blew my mind. too bad nobody ever actually dies in superhero comics. I finally started to get back into the more serious comics i had around and i forgot how much more rewarding they are than...everything. i guess i didn't actually have anything interesting to say.

12:04 am - woe is you and everyone else.
I tried to party, no one is around. i partied, it just seemed sad. escaping myself would be nice from time to time, but i just cant seem to do it. i'll have to just try again and again. i get a free weekend day and i spent it holed up in my room or driving. there must be something more to do than drink people, seriously. and at bars on the other side of town no less. i am dreaming of 24 hour subway systems and new faces,

9:59 pm - Muzings
I saw dumptruck with a decepticon logo on it. I will always have that little kid fascination with firetrucks/dumptrucks. I am yet to be impressed by cranes.

I have a really hard time dropping a subject and everyone says i talk to much. But i just never say it right.

writing papers is to hell as hell is to writing papers. it is a good thing i never took the s.a.t's.

I only write entries when i get dumped or am traveling...there is something funny about that. no really there is.

one good thing about summer is that little kids have popsicle mouth. one bad thing is that cats look so sad.

also this is the only time of year i feel unpurdy. i need to get some tattoo on my leg to justify all the discomfort of shorts. totally get a sick gecko or some shit. i often forget that sarcasm doesn't work on the internet. i'm not sure it works at all anymore. ha ha; sarcasm is broken.

2:54 am - i am home
I am in eugene. i shaved off my beard. and Ren just got see a fun side few people get to see with me. 'Post Work Carey' which means that after work i go somewhere and smoke pot and then talk to the point if driving people insane. i don't know why this happens and now i think it's pretty funny, but i had basically forgot about psycho after work behavior. tonight was especially bad because it was just me and the new owner. for seven hours. i said very little and just tried to smile. which, if you know me at all was most likely not the best idea. jamey, ryan, ira and tim can all attest to this darker side of me and now Ren can proudly join the, "my mind was raped by carey" club. goodnight.

current mood: yeah

10:49 am - i am not in oregon, so it is time to update
It occured to me this morning that i have spent less than two month in oregon so far this year. weird. Uncool real life shit has been happening that is worth whining about, but not here and not now. i am on the road again so all is well considering. I have been all over the tiny towns of the east coast country. And charmed by all their quirkiness. Makes eugene look like a booming metropolis. I still really miss a lot of people that i never quite caught up with, but given the situation i have just been sticking to the folks that have known me forever and really knew my father. It's calmer that way. However, now i am amongst the art school elite in bennington vermont. Which despite the dark clothes and the brooding nature is full of really nice, exciting kids. On thursday i make my first trip to the stage not in Oregon and i am quite scared. it's one thing to play for a bunch of kids that will like your music more because it's you than what you are actuallyplaying, but to go up in front of strangers, many of which are at school...for music, is will, frightening. The uspide is i get to romp around with drew and rose on this very pretty campus and get to see saturday looks good to me again, without having to standoutside of a bar and look in. Soon i will be on the comfy confines of sarah lawrence and the NYC where i will be meeting the lovely ren and echo and this just in, my hero andrew is coming out to visit as well. So there is much merriment in the furture and i hope all on the west are doing as well as all on the east. pikachu, i choose you to end this very dull blog,

6:25 pm - pastiche bitches
uhhhhh i still cant sort all of rome out. snippits if you will,

1. echo, julia\luke and carrie making that psycho city a bit more sane.
2. playing a drinking game with 14 irish men = 2 bottles of wine in under an hour
3. making wishes at the trevi fountain at 2 a.m. sharing cigarettes with a cute french canadian girl
4. waving to the many cats that lunge around the 2000 year old forums.
5. giving money to a dog with a basket hanging out of its mouth
6. meeting this boy genius who graduated high school when he was 15. he translated latin for me all over rome. almost everything says, "we the people and emperor (whoever) give this (whatever) to the city of rome. he may have just been making shit up, but i bought it. also, he said he would be gay if he werent christian. that boy is smart and all but not so wise. i tried to convince him jesus would still love him however he was as long as he was virtuos. at that point we were so drunk i dont think he even remembered telling me that
7. seeing this skeezy guy that looked, no joke, exactly like charles bukowski masturbating on the subway while he leered at these 15 year old girls. who really seemed to be enjoying the spectacle.
8. i met a guy who saw a dead woman outside of his hostel

i am running out of time, when i sort my thoughts out i will write more. ROME is fucking insane. in. sane. fuckinginsane.

2:37 pm - Bewks
I just tried to be one of 'those' (i have no idea what that is supposed to mean) people who read in the bathtub. How the fuck does that work? i would move a tiny bit and like throw my book across the room to avoid water. water and books. WATER. BOOKS. I thought that was some SMART people were supposed to do stuff like that. psh. My brother is coming to europe and i am so excited to roam the streets with him. He is much better at drinking too much and causing a scene. i have been hard up some crazy drunken banter that i am in some part the cause of. And not just the dude nodding while the drunk irish/english/scottish/german tourist who is babbling on about something much in the same way i am doing now. I blew a smoke ring today. don't worry ladies, i already gave myself a high five. Carey Mann's european book list goes as follows. I am going to make this extra pretentious for christina,

(in no order whatsoever)

The Question of God by Dr. Armand Nicholi Jr (this book is about c.s. lewis and Sig. Freud and is actually not boring. a non-stop thrill ride)
The Walls Came Tumbling Down by Robert anton Wilson (a very good screenplay to what would have most likely been a very baaad movie)
His Excellency George Washington by Joseph J. Ellis (Joseph Ellis is a pimp and G.W. was kind of, not really, a pimp. still, a fucking sweet book)
Paris France by Gertrude Stein (shitty)
Embroideries by Marjane Satrapi (The same lady who wrote peresepolis. this one is dirty though.)
Horrible Histories: Dublin and The Vile Victorians (ALL OF THESE BOOKS ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE FUTURE)
Journey To The End of the Night by Celine ( this book is a really interesting, well written ahead of it's time, but really nothing all that special. That wasn't a joke. it's also like 150 pages too long)
The Lost Honor of Katherina Blum by Heinrich Boll (read the clown first, but this book is fucking awesome. it makes it even easier to hate the media)
The Good Life by Jay Mcinerney (Read every book by this guy wait six years and then read this. it was a joy for me. plus the only fiction book i have heard of that is an awful lot about 9/11. this is a sequel to Brightness Falls)
The Doors of Perception by Adlous Huxley (yeah, that's about every time i have taken hard drugs)
Harry Potter 5 & 6 (some shit happens. you guys all know)
Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman (he made looking like a hobo cool, so i am forever indebted to him)

This has been the bulk of my time spent in cafes, waiting for stuff (planes, trains, buses and...dames? no, no, brains.)and being too broke to go to museums. I love all of you,

12:28 pm - Big Bubbles no Troubles
This update may be updated when time allows, but i have to write this in aprox 7 minutes. I have been making evening friends left and right on the streets of Amsterdam. I met this funny german couple yesterday. continuing my strange flare for meeting people from the country i just left. French in Ireland, Scottish is Germany and German in Holland. Like whoa. They were really into hackysak (or however that stupid thing is spelled) And I couldn't get across my almost religious avoidance of that hippy/Eugene passtime. I explained candy ravers hinting at how that might affect my inability to do anything with the sak if it came near me. i kicked it like a soccer ball a few times to get it away from me and laughed a lot. But i don't think they quite understood. Everyone got a little too stoned (in amsterdam, you are always a little TOO stoned) and just kind of spoke nonsense. They dropped their bags anywhere and it took some fancy word play and gestures to let them know they were in fact playing a stupid game at someones front door. It was nice not being, the crude awkward tourist if not kind of embarrising when ever someone actually came home. The next night i met this high contradictory south african kid who definitly held a bit of dutch racism under his belt. And was a theology student. it's only interesting to note that we met when this indian man in our hostel collapsed right in front of us. He tried to open a door and just passed out. I for some reason was unfazed and turned him over onto his back until the kid could run and get help. Before he returned i managed to make him aware that he was on the floor and he kind of meekly got to his knees and crawled to bed muttering about tea or something. The mystery remains unexplained, but all through the night he was singing in his sleep and yelling out to someone in half english half indian. A lot of funny conversations took place in the name of everybodys shadowy history. I went through the now very scripted, 'bush is an idiot conversation' that is just waiting to fly from the mouth of every european you meet. The German couple and I had a very tense (on their end) conversation about the nazi's and hitler as we saw some street cleaners trying to rub off a swastika, freshly painted on a tower in central square. I reassured them not everyone in America thought of Germans as Nazis if they promised not to think of every American as a redneck. the south African kid was much more overtly proud of his famous, slave holding dutch lineage. i tried my best to point out how absurd that was, but he didn't seem willing to let the conversation lead to some place where he might have to explain himself, so i just started talking about music. he said he hated emo, but that thrice and thursday were his favorites. without even a hint of irony. Culture is funny. rambling with 30 seconds to go,

Careywithafringeontop.

2:44 am - farewell germany/snowfalls on heideburg
I have taken a break from culture to lay around miss julia nichols apartment and totally swoon over her and her new man. cutest couple i have ever seen. I have become a whore for desperate housewives because julia has it all on her computer. also i have been singing adam green all week because they play his video like he is a damn pop star here. like squeezed between that new beyonce song and some awful german something. on a different note that new beyonce song is pretty sweet. I have caught up on some reading and will soon be able to post my must reads of 2006 when i get around to making some kind of list. It is carnival time here so if i ever come back to germany i will be so disappointed to not see every one with crappy wigs, little kids in black face (or on a much less fucked up note, a little kid dressed as wario) and men with fake boobs on. i'll just pretend germany is always like this. there is this band tokyo hotel that is seriously the worst thing ever but their frontman is like this 13 year old boy that looks exactly like a 12 year old girl. it's insane. germans have yet to figure out pop music even if their sandwich meat beats ours in a biiiiig way. Julia has returned with snacks and things so i am off like a dirty shirt,

CAAAAAARRRRREEEEEYYYYpants

P.S. trousers is my word of the week

4:11 am - Jermany
I have been having a killer non-stop bro hang with miss julia nichols and getting to see her german past up close and personal. we went to this place called baden-baden (i.e. baths, baths) which is...a bunch of baths and crazy swimming pools and aroma therapy rooms and when you go in they make you shower before you enter and so i was in the public shower with a bunch of old german dudes and i could think was, "oh my god, bathing with nazis..." but the place was really nice and relaxing and these funny french kids kind of followed julia and i around and they were really stupid. basically though i have been just laying around and getting all reminiscent about eugene kids and missing them like whoa. Julia's man is coming to town tonite and he sounds like an awesome dude. i watched all of the office and have swooned for that show. this is a rambling quick entry because we have to go clean my socks in a minute and julia is making crepes. i went to this huge castle and saw a wine keg that could hold like 22,000 gallons of wine. it used to be run by a midget who drank/ate nothing but wine and one day he was given water and dropped dead. the new guns and roses album leaked so you download kids get on it. much love from deutchland,

Carey

P.S. i read the sixth harry potter and it is fucked up.

current mood: rested

8:54 am - a quick one with easy reference numbers
#1 this morning i fell out of bed, literally
#2 i met broken social scene on the street and they were nice enough to chat for a minute. very good people. who didn't mind me mentioning my smelly socks
#3 i saw two different people walking somewhere with a music stand, i asked the second guy what was up and he said, 'oh they will be all the rage soon you just wait'
#4 i botched all rendevous plans with julia (as was to be expected, it is me after all) and in turn stayed up all night talking with this rad dude from scotland in the frankfurt airport. i have a knack for befriending people from the country i just left.
#5 i got an e-mail from my dad that was more just a letter and it occured to me that, that is a first. He writes in the same sloppy conversational tone that i do and it made me realize that even though he is all kinds of fucked up i don't think i would want him any different. he is awesome sauce. lots of love back home and to folks in europe and elsewhere. the world needs a hug and i have might long arms,

Carey

P.S. german keyboards are fucking weird! or, kezboards as i typed it at first.

P.P.S taylor name your band kezboards so that kezboards and krebstar can battle people with wussy music.
